ENABLING ENTREPRENEURS OUTSIDE THE CEMENT INDUSTRY TO BECOME CEMENT PRODUCERS
The client.
Multiple Hauliers is a family-owned company from Kenya, currently managed by Rajinder Singh. The company operates the largest transport company in Eats Africa with over 1.000 trucks and more than 1.500 employees. For many years, Multiple Hauliers has been one of the largest logistic supplier for many cement producers in East Africa.
The challenge.
The main challenge of this project was not only the client’s total lack of experience in the cement industry. This required Cemengal to support from the very beginning the client throughout the entire process. The real challenge was that one unit of Plug&Grind was sold to the market of Uganda as Kamapala Cement and a second unit was sold for the market of South Sudan. By the time the unit was ready to be send, a civil war started in South Sudan and the project changed completely. Finnaly the second unit was installed in pararell in Kamapala Cement, Uganda.
The reaction of Cemengal to prepare the layout, and more all what is related to the way two plants can work in parallel instead of just a solely plant. Everything was done properly in very short time with a complete satisfaction of the client with no delays whatsoever in the project.
The solution.
In 2013, the logistics company Multiple Hauliers expressed its intention to enter the cement industry.
During a cement conference in Marrakech, we had the opportunity to meet the son of Rajinder Singh, who explained their plans to become involved in the cement sector in Uganda and South Sudan.
After many meetings, site visits, and trips, we signed an agreement for one unit in Uganda and a second unit for South Sudan. For reasons already explained, both units ultimately ended up operating in parallel on the outskirts of Kampala.
Both units installed in Kampala are Plug&Grind® Classic plants, with cement production capacities exceeding ≥12 tph, reaching close to 200,000 tons of cement per year.
This project, similar to the Ndovu Cement project in Kenya, introduced to the market a company with no prior background in the cement industry, energizing the market and expanding the range of offerings previously available.
